Why your site is slow

Take longer than three seconds and half your visitors leave. The reason is almost always one of these four.

If a page takes more than three seconds on a phone, roughly half the traffic turns around — and Google sees that too. The good news is that the cause is always the same four things.

1. Uncompressed photos

A 4MB photo straight off a camera. What the site needs is a 200KB WebP. Fixing only this solves half the problem.

2. More plugins than the site needs

Thirty plugins on WordPress means thirty extra files on every page. Most of what they do could be twenty lines of code.

3. Cheap shared hosting

On a ₹99-a-month server there are 500 other sites. The first response alone takes two seconds, and after that nothing you do matters.

4. Too many fonts and scripts

Four font families, three chat widgets, two analytics tools. Each one opens its own connection. Two fonts and one analytics tool is enough.

Check it yourself

Put your URL into PageSpeed Insights and look at the Mobile tab. Above 90 is good, 50 to 89 is worth fixing, and below 50 means the site is costing you money.
